Bulgaria’s main international airport is Sofia Airport, which is located approximately ten kilometres to the east of the city. There are also international airports at Varna, Burgas and Plovdiv. There are several airlines that fly between London and Sofia on a daily basis. It is possible to catch a direct flight to the smaller cities in Bulgaria as well.

The flight time from London is approximately three hours. Most other European countries have directs flights to Bulgaria, as it is fast becoming a very popular tourist destination. It is also possible to enter Bulgaria by car or by train from any of the neighbouring countries. When entering by car, you must state which border you will be exiting from and pay a road tax accordingly. You must also pay a ‘disinfections’ fee for your vehicle when entering the country.

To enter Bulgaria, a valid passport is required with at least three months remaining on the date of departure. Any national of an EU country does not need a visa to enter for a period of up to 90 days in a six month period. It is important to remember that under Bulgarian law, all foreign visitors must contact their local police station within 48 hours of arrival and register where they will be staying in the country. If staying at a hotel, the hotel management are obligated to do this for you.
